Intercessions For 7th Sunday Of Easter (Ascension Of Jesus) – 16th May 2021
Jesus is alive.
Love has won the victory over evil and death.
Prayer is at the heart of our Christian life. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has said: “If we want to see things changed, it starts with prayer. It starts with a new spirit of prayer, using all the traditions, ancient and modern. It comes from Christians seeking Christ.”
Let us pray:
Father God, today we remember the ascension to heaven of your son Jesus after his death and resurrection. And he has promised us His Holy Spirit at Pentecost who will fill our hearts with new life and hope. As we bring our prayers to you we give thanks to you for loving us so much.
After a short silence: Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
We pray for those caught up in war, violence, and hatred everywhere
but especially between Israel and the Palestinians,
we are sad for the innocent victims of these evils and we seek your help…..
We also remember our brothers and sisters suffering the tragic coronavirus pandemic all over the world, especially in India, that they may find help, that the grieving families all over the world may draw comfort and care from loved ones and from local and international solidarity,
After a short silence: Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
Be with us all, Lord: in all our daily struggles as we seek to follow you.
Be with us all, Lord: in our periods of doubt and despair;
and in our times of happiness, health and loving.
Be with us all, Lord: until that time you will return and
when in your in your Kingdom of Love our joy will know no end
After a short silence: Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
We now pray for your blessing and your healing grace for those who have requested our prayers, especially Diana Scammell, Mel Deacon, Don Whyles, Chris Howard, Chris Kenny, Matt, Sophie, Lisa Smith, Margaret, Christina, Jennifer, David Keene and others we know of.
After a short silence: Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
We also pray for those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone dear to them and for those whose anniversary we recall.
After a short silence: Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
And, finally, we now pray for what is of immediate and urgent concern in our hearts for our lives and for our dear ones, trusting fully in the provident care of Jesus for us.
A long pause …
Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, in your mercy.
All hear our prayer.
After a silent, longer pause…
Father,
we feel loved,
we feel forgiven,
we feel saved.
Thank you for Jesus Christ your Son
who died for us on the cross
and rose again from the dead
and who offers us
true peace and true hope.
Help us to hold on to him
and to follow him
the way, the truth and the life
as we entrust you our prayers
in the name of your Son Jesus Christ.
Amen.
