for The Twentieth Sunday after Trinity
Some Prayers/Intercessions for the Twentieth Sunday after Trinity
“Prayer is a plant, the seed of which is sown in the heart of every Christian.
If it is well cultivated and nourished it will produce fruit, but if it is neglected,
it will wither and die.”
Jesus is alive.
Love has won the victory over evil and death.
As we keep the 20th Sunday after Trinity Sunday, we also keep today as Bible Sunday, a day we thank God for His Word as found in the Holy Bible. We are a blessed people because we have received God’s Word in the Scripture. And so, trusting in God’s promises of life in all its fullness, we now bring our prayers to our loving and almighty God in the name of His Son Jesus Christ.
We thank God for His Word:
Blessed Lord, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning:
Help us so to hear them, to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word, we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ, let us pray to the Lord:
(short pause for silent prayer)
Lord, in your Mercy:
All Hear our Prayer
We pray for the world:
As the coronavirus continues to spread in our world causing fear, anxiety, grief, we ask you O God to deliver us from this pandemic; we believe you who created all things and found it very good and beautiful, recreate our world yet again O God and grant that we may strive to support and care for each other to rekindle hope and new life, let us pray to the Lord:
(short pause for silent prayer)
Lord, in your Mercy:
All Hear our Prayer
We pray for our nation:
As most regions of our nation are under various levels of lockdown, we bring ourselves and our brothers and sisters in every region in our land. May we be united in fighting this virus and may we do all we can to support one another and to care for each other so as to overcome the pandemic, let us pray to the Lord:
(short pause for silent prayer)
Lord, in your Mercy:
All Hear our Prayer
We pray for our Parish:
As we have come together again as a worshipping community of the Springline Parish, we turn to you O God for your grace to know you, love you and follow you in your Son Jesus Christ, to have a heart for the poor and lonely, the sick and the dying in our midst, that we may be united as a Church Family to spread the ‘Good News’ of your love in our village communities, let us pray to the Lord:
(short pause for silent prayer)
Lord, in your Mercy:
All Hear our Prayer
We pray for those in need
We now pray for those in our midst who are in need of our praye who are known to us or dear to us…let us bring them by name in prayer to our Heavenly Father …pause for prayer…
let us also remember those dear ones who have died and whom we still grieve…may they be granted eternal rest in Jesus Christ…..pause for prayer …
Lord, in your Mercy:
All Hear our Prayer
And we pray for ourselves…
Let us now pause a moment in silent prayer, gently become aware of our breathing and let us relax in the presence of the Lord and humbly tell him what is really deepest in our hearts for he knows us, loves us and forgives us.
(after a silent, slightly longer pause …)
At the end:
Father,
we feel loved,
we feel forgiven,
we feel saved.
Thank you for Jesus Christ your Son
who died for us on the cross
and rose again from the dead
and who offers us
true peace and true hope.
Help us to hold on to him
and to follow him
the way, the truth and the life
as we entrust you our prayers
in the name of your Son Jesus Christ.
Amen.
